Ok, the clock is ticking and our bodies are wearing out from all the twisting, leaning and tugging. So how long can the body take all the abuse? I'm looking to find out about the oldest living full-time sonographer and how many years they have been actively been scanning patients. They must scan patients every day. Is anyone retiring in there 60's with like a 40 years of active scanning in? It would be interesting to find out.

No but after having had to do "each" patient portable, lugging the 500 lb machine over uneven flooring, carpet , moving tons of furniture I feel like I am 90 , does that count ?

weighing in at a whopping 112 lbs , does not add any resistance when pushing or pulling this 500 lb machine.........and had someone told me this is what I would feel like at my age I would have PASSED it all up ........To think I spent almost 4 years driving to schools because I live in such rural area as well as traveling to work as I have always had to work FAR away to get PAID ...I would have passed on it all.

I LOVE , absolutely LOVE scanning ,but that machine and furniture moving has created real issues.....

I don't mind going bedside for exams,or moving a tray, end table or IV pole, even the bed , but the couches and recliners, metal chairs, having to STEAL a chair from the nurse station that will adjust for height or turning and twisting an dhaving them CHASE you down screaming at you ...well you get the picture , sorry to hijack the thread like this .

Ok, so we've all heard that story before. What I'm looking for is the most seasoned sonographer still scanning patients on a daily basis. Lets start off with anyone out there been scanning over 30yrs? Or know someone with over that.

oldest

I'm sure I am not the oldest, I have only been actively working since 1980. The first machine I was trained on was a Picker B Scanner.

I've been doing echoes since 1977. The last 24+ years have been in pediatrics. It certainly is a different field. I don't have any issues with what the "adult" cardiac sonographers are dealing with.

Ok, so we have a few, any more? As for me I started full time scanning, general and vascular in 1983. I too started on Picker B scanner. The newbie are still asking themself what the heck is that. Lets here from a few more old timers. Anyone planning on retiring from this field?
